Upon hearing about the attack on Ohmatdyt, the renowned American artist, Trek Thunder Kelly, canceled his
vacation and
traveled to Kyiv, eager to help the Ukrainian people. He says he does it the best way he knows—through his
art. To
support the young patients at Ohmatdyt Hospital, Kelly visited the School of Superheroes.
Together, they painted T-shirts, using bright colors to depict their dreams. “Every time hospitals and
schools are
attacked, it’s beyond inhumane. We are here for the children. I want to lift their spirits through art
therapy,” the
artist shared.
Trek first came to Ukraine in the summer of 2022. In Irpin, he painted sunflowers on wrecked cars and the
bombed-out
cultural center. Now, as a keepsake from his encounter with our students, the new art pieces are brightly
painted
T-shirts. Even amid an air raid alarm that day, imagination, creativity, dreams, and smiles knew no bounds.
“Our students need these emotions, this joy. And you know, whenever children attend these masterclasses, we
always see a
transformation. They might come in feeling sad, but after the masterclass, they are filled with emotions,”
said Halyna
Musiyenko, Head of the Educational Center at the State Institution "School of Superheroes."
