Starting from January 1, 2022, the newly created state institution "School of Superheroes" will provide education for preschoolers and students who are in hospital treatment or who are provided with rehabilitation assistance in health care institutions. Today, on December 3, the institution was presented at the Ministry of Education and Science. "There can be no children in Ukraine who do not receive general secondary education.
At the same time, education should be not only affordable, but also of high quality, meet the individual needs of the child and provide conditions for his or her development and socialization. Today we are presenting the "School of Superheroes", which should finally provide education to preschool and school-age children who are in hospital or who are provided with rehabilitation assistance," said Deputy Minister of Education and Science Vira Rogova. Established by the Cabinet of Ministers on the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska, the state institution "School of Superheroes" will organize and provide educational services in the field of preschool and complete general secondary education to persons who are in hospital or who are provided with rehabilitation assistance in health care institutions from January 1, 2022. Vira Rogova also thanked the founder of the NGO "Small Heart with Art" Yevhenia Smirnova, curator of the School of Superheroes and the Right to Education Natalia Moseychuk, presenter of the 1+1 TV channel for the efforts they made to create the School of Superheroes and ensure its work, as well as organizations and partners who supported children in hospitals and their desire for knowledge.
The school and its team have gone from the first master classes for HIV-positive children in the National Children's Hospital "Okhmatdyt" in 2014 to the creation of full-fledged modern classes in children's hospitals in the regional centers of Ukraine and the writing of the first social franchise. "Four years of efforts of a large team - and finally we got the result, now the opening and work of schools at hospitals throughout the country will take place at the state level. There were working groups, heated discussions on the arrangement of the educational process at hospitals, we argued, studied the experience of other countries where such training has long been implemented. Our goal was the state level of support. We have achieved it. Now it is important to monitor the progress of the reform, the Board of Trustees should work.
Let's move on! We are grateful to everyone who has helped and is helping," said Natalia Moseychuk, curator of the Superheroes School and the Right to Education project, host of 1+1 TV channel. "The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine is proud to support this unique and important project, which aims to provide vulnerable children with their fundamental right to education," said Michael Clausen, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. The Cabinet of Ministers has already approved the documents necessary for the work of the institution - the charter, the procedure for holding a competition for the position of the director, the terms of remuneration of employees of the institution, as well as the procedure for providing educational services to persons who receive pre-school or complete secondary education and are in hospital or who are provided with rehabilitation assistance in health care institutions.
The governing bodies of the state institution will be:- the director, who will be appointed for a term of 5 years by the founder of the School based on the results of the competition. We have been going to it for six years. What seemed to be a quick solution turned out to be a long advocacy path. The state institution that is currently being created is, of course, progress, because it answers questions and challenges. It should be understood that education of children in hospitals is not identical to education in regular schools. Children may feel bad. A hospital teacher is about interest, deepening knowledge, distraction from the disease. This person has a whole range of expectations and responsibilities. Therefore, the legal and regulatory framework should take this into account. When the documents were developed thanks to many experts, our ideas were taken into account and will become a reality in the state institution. More children will have access to quality education - the Superheroes School is scaling up," said Yevheniia Smirnova, founder of the Superheroes School and the Small Heart with Art NGO. The presentation can be viewed on the MES Facebook and YouTube. Watch the story of the Superheroes School on our YouTube channel.
