Today, October 28, it has been three years since the School of Superheroes acquired the status of a state institution. This change was a big step forward in the development and realization of the right to education for young hospital patients.

Currently, the School operates under the patronage of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska. On the map there are 17 educational centers in 13 cities of Ukraine. More and more children are getting the opportunity to have a real childhood, even despite a long stay in hospital walls.

Legislative changes this year made it possible to take another step forward. In September, the Government approved amendments to Resolution No. 1160 of October 28, 2021, “Some Issues of ensuring the organization and provision of educational services to children undergoing inpatient treatment or receiving rehabilitation assistance”, which canceled the restrictions on the start of providing educational services from the 14th day of a child's stay for treatment or rehabilitation in a health care institution.

The changes make it possible to avoid the discrimination in the provision of educational services for children based on the length of staying in the hospital, health status or diagnosis. So now it doesn’t matter how much time the child spends in the hospital- education is available to everyone.

Now there is a special teacher in the staff of educational spaces. And this is an opportunity to teach qualitatively the children with special educational needs, taking into account their individual needs and capabilities. Such changes make it possible to implement the pilot direction of the state institution “ School Superheroes” - providing education for children undergoing inpatient treatment or rehabilitation in psychiatric departments of children’s hospitals.

The staff of educational centers will be replenished with foreign language teachers for primary school students, which will contribute to raising the level of English learning for students of grades 1-4.

Corrective and developmental services and psychological and pedagogical services for children with special educational needs who are in hospitals will be paid fairly. Educational services will now be provided throughout the calendar year, not just during the school year. This will ensure the involvement and support of children in hospitals, including during summer vacations, and adapt to the own pace of students who, according to their health state, require an individual educational trajectory.

Some other issues have been settled, which will ensure even more efficient work of the state institution.
